Dear colleagues,
Education is one of the best investments you can make in any society. Yet worldwide, more than 120 million children are not in school. Thanks to the efforts of ING and its employees more than 52,000 children were given access to education in 2006 via our ING Chances for Children program.
I am proud to say that Wholesale Banking made a great effort towards the program in 2006. Over the course of last year, we supported the education of more than 11,000 children in UNICEF projects in Brazil, Ethiopia and India. With this number we exceeded expectations as our goal was to support 10,000 children. An extra bonus for me is that we reached our target with generous efforts from all Wholesale Banking regions. Therefore the Wholesale Banking Management Team decided to also donate EUR 50,000 to the program.
Closer to home Wholesale Banking funded many education projects in our local communities. Wholesale Banking staff was also frequently involved in many related voluntary activities in the regions. This shows how committed you all are to the community you work in.
Let me congratulate you on our terrific result and sincerely thank you for your commitment and contribution to ING Chances for Children in 2006.
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome two new ING Chances for Children ambassadors: Ralph Hamers and Rutger Koopmans. I am sure that they will be able to give the program guidance and keep staff enthusiastic.
The plight of underprivileged children worldwide is an ongoing one. ING Chances for Children will continue to help them. ING has set up a new challenge for 2007: to give 112,000 children access to education which is equal to the number of ING staff. To motivate employee support, the Executive Board has committed to match all employee donations to ING Chances for Children (local projects and UNICEF projects). In several countries you can become a donator and support the programme on a monthly basis. It only takes EUR 2.50 per month to give one child access to education. Please check with your regional contact if you want to participate in payroll giving.
I look forward to this new challenge and trust that together we will continue to be an import part of ING Chances for Children.
Kind regards,
Eric Boyer |
