A employee volunteering program launched in July 2009

Today, more and more corporate leaders are turning to volunteer programs as a key strategy to help realize their business goals while positively engaging their employees in helping to meet the rights of the local community. The growing interest in the volunteer activities has prompted the ING Vysya Foundation to launch a Volunteer Program in July 09 titled as “HOMEWORK BUDDIES”.

This volunteer program is aimed at building relationships, as often both our employees and the partner NGOs see their relationship in limited terms, or under the constraints of the particular program being funded. This initiative had provided a platform for employees to interact with children to help develop reasoning and logic to gather age appropriate learning skill.

In Bangalore, employees were requested to help NGO children to complete their homework and teach basic mathematics and English. 26 member team, across ING business in Bangalore, volunteered during the month of July 09.

In Mumbai, this initiative has taken a different shape, where in a 22 member volunteer team had represented ING business across Mumbai to spend fun time with the rehabilitated street children, living under the care of a partner organization.

The enthusiasm of employees have prompted the Foundation to launch a long term volunteering program where in employees across the ING business in Bangalore and Mumbai would help children (under the care of Foundation’s partner organizations) for a period of three months (August to October 2009) to develop their learning skills and to fulfill their recreational needs.
