As an organisation’s contribution towards community social development all the business units of ING Vysya came together to showcase the Power of One under ING Vysya Foundation’s second annual fund – raising campaign, “I Love my School”.
The campaign is the Indian chapter of ING Chances for Children’ global initiative of fulfilling the mission to promote primary education for under privileged children. The campaign aims at supporting the education of 15,000 previous child labourers in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts in Tamil Nadu for 3 years, until 2008. Last year, under the Back to School Campaign, the business units together raised a total of Rs. 42 Lakhs, which put over 2800 children “Back to School”.
These funds were raised through the sale of raffle booklets. Following the same model this year too, the booklets were valued at Rs 1500 each, and contained 30 leaves of Rs. 50 denomination, which was the entire fund required to retain a child back in school. This noble empowerment was extended to employees of all business units by distributing booklets across all locations where ING Vysya is present in India. This ensured that the I Love my school initiative drive had a pan India reach.
The campaign was internally launched to 372 branches of the Bank, 150 cities covering all branches of Life Insurance and over 34 cities of Mutual Funds. To support the initiative, awareness building messages and hype generating communication was planned and executed. The communication primarily targeting employees was on full display across offices to reinforce and inspire participation of employees. Apart from this, certificates of recognition for the most number of contributions were also presented.
The initiative was widely embraced and mass responses from across business units poured into ING Vysya Foundation. The campaign concluded on 12th June – International Day against Child Labour.
ING Vysya on this day presented UNICEF India with a cheque of the funds raised at an event held at ING Vysya Auditorium, Bangalore. ING Vysya employees together raised a total of Rupees 65 lakhs of funds under the I Love my school campaign which empowered 4,300 children to remain in school and achieve their dreams. Representing ING Vysya were Vaughn Richtor (MD & CEO – ING Vysya Bank) and Kshitij Jain (MD & CEO – ING Vysya Life) who presented the cheque to Thomas George of UNICEF.
Speaking on behalf of the businesses, Kshitij Jain stated the importance of the ING Vysya Foundation brand being the binding agent for all ING Vysya businesses to come together and celebrate a cause which they hold close to their hearts. He also expressed his gratitude and appreciated employees for their valuable contributions towards this cause.
Vaughn Richtor, Ambassador of the ING CFC programme also shared: “With this initiative, ING Vysya Foundation has reiterated its commitment to projects for under privileged children. Last year employees raised 42 lakh rupees enabling 2700 children to go to school. This year’s focus is to keep these children in school and provide them with primary education in UNICEF-supported bridge schools.”
As part of the event a small musical play was also put together by the children of Christel House and Sukrupa, our not for profit partners with volunteer support from Bangalore based employees of ING Vysya Life. The play was a fun-filled depiction of a child’s story, who complains about home work at school, but yet brings out the importance of being in school and how much he and his friends love school. The message was communicated in an informal manner, whilst also ensuring audience participation.
The event was widely attended by employees and also saw winners of the raffle draw being announced.
The prize winning tickets were:

Message from Director, Projects – ING Vysya Foundation:
Since it’s conception 3 years ago, the Foundation has grown from strength to strength. It has helped bring ING’s business units to work together, towards a common goal and vision for underprivileged children.
In ING, volunteering is more than donating time and expertise, it is a demonstration of commitment and involvement, whether it is taking 100 children to the planetarium or raising much needed funds to support bonded child labourers to get education. Employees have shown their commitment and support to make a difference.
I am truly grateful towards all of you for your support and your generous contributions. I am thankful to all those employees who believed that we could and will make a difference. |
